Specialised Training UK offer a range of fire safety courses, one of these courses covers the role of the Fire Marshal. This course aims to ensure that participants can contribute to the overall safety of a workplace by preventing and responding to fire emergencies.
The course will cover topics such as legislation, fire safety regulations, and your role, and responsibility as a fire marshal. It also covers types of fire extinguishers and their use in addition to fire alarm systems as there is a wide range of both. It is important to know how fire can be detected, and how to use and be familiar with it.
You will also learn about how fire is started. This starts with an explanation of the fire triangle and learning how to identify common hazards and risks within your workplace or setting.
The Fire Marshal Role
As a marshal, you will have an important role in evacuation procedures, so the course will cover how to assist a safe means of escape from a building in the event of a fire, establish and manage assembly points for evacuated personnel and how to make considerations for assisting individuals with mobility issues, disabilities, or other specific needs during an evacuation.
An important part of this role is communication. As a marshal, you must effectively communicate with emergency services and other personnel, practice evacuation and fire drills, and apply all that you have learned. Finally, the course will take you through record-keeping, documentation and reporting requirements related to fire safety.
Benefits
If your workplace or business has designated you as a fire marshal, this course will cover all you need to know and ensure you know your responsibilities. Becoming a trained fire marshal also requires a refresher course every three years due to changes in legislation and fire safety practices.
