Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression or PMVA

Specialised Training UK offer a PMVA course which is crucial for those in the care industry, mental health workers and secure transport personnel, who are more likely to be working in an environment with violent or challenging behaviour. So, what does our course cover and how can we support you? Here is a brief overview.

Managing challenging and/or violent behaviour

This will cover a range of topics and techniques including how to help identify and de-escalate a situation and ways to ensure your personal safety, along with conflict resolution and the power of good communication. We also look to understand what may be going on in the bigger picture such as underlying causes, managing attitudes, and how there are various types of behaviour.

Law and Legislation

By understanding legal perspectives, you can reduce the risk of litigation and claims made against you and your staff. In addition, many care and healthcare settings require staff to have trained in PMVA as a regulation of employment, proving competency and an understanding of the regulations and national guidelines, especially when it comes to using force or restraint.

Restraint Training

This will show you best practise when it comes to physical restraint including handcuffs and soft cuffs from trained professionals. There are different types and methods of restraint, we will show you how to deal with situations effectively, and within a team.

Breakaway Techniques

Our instructors will show you physical skills to help break away from a situation in a safe method, protecting yourself. Similar to self-defence, these sessions can be tailored to your work environment and specific requirements.

The Benefits of PMVA Training

With PMVA training you and your staff will have a better understanding and confidence to deal with potential threats and risk of harm. Giving participants a sense of safety and empowerment, in addition to promoting compassionate care.
